Beauty and the Budget

Overview

The client came to us with a simple idea: Have a great performing theatre without blowing the budget.

The Concept

This family of four enjoys hosting movie nights with friends and family so they asked to have as much seating as possible while maintaining a comfortable environment. ‘Bang for the Buck’ was a key phrase throughout this whole project. Budget minded performance was the directive; to this end we chose our equipment and complimented it with proper room design and acoustic treatments.

This room was decided to become a theatre after the structure of the house had been built. The result of this was a 6’ x 18” bulkhead that ran down the inside ceiling. The customer requested as many seats as possible but two risers put the back row of seats too close to the ceiling. We decided to house the rack in the back corner of the room to help balance the offset of the rear row of seats. In the end the irregular ceiling structure helped with the acoustical properties of the room.

The Outcome

Every dollar spent was carefully weighed between aesthetics and performance and more often performance came out on top. The result is a room that far exceeded the customer’s expectations.

The architectural features and design of this room were chosen based on performance. Acoustical panel placement was key to the acoustical properties of the room so this dictated the overall design. Paint, seating color, and acoustical fabric were chosen by the Designer and Integrator working in conjunction with the clients.
