Muskoka Lakehouse

The Challenge

The clients came to us while in the planning stages of building their dream cottage.  We designed a centralized lighting control system that controls all lights on this property (Main cottage and Boathouse) both interior and exterior.

The Solution

This project encompasses a full Lutron Homeworks QS lighting control system with over 170 controlled lighting loads and 51 keypads, as well as Lutron automated shading throughout the entire home and boat house.

The objective was to design and execute a system that would blend seamlessly with the Interior Design and Architecture, having single gang keypads and shades in recessed pockets in place of multi gang high voltage boxes and exposed shades went along way to achieving that outcome.

This is such a special project.  The unique designs and attention to detail in this build are truly spectacular.  We seamlessly blended an incredible amount of must have technology and function into a cottage that appears to have none.

When you have a build like this where there is no interior drywall anywhere, you need to plan keypad placement and exactly what substrate that keypad is being installed into very carefully.  We worked with the Architect, Builder and Interior Designer to ensure things would go smoothly.  We constructed mock ups of See Touch Keypads in granite and in wood beams for client approval.

The Homeworks QS system eliminated all the typical wall scarring/multi gang switches you see in homes that have this much lighting.  TVs are recessed so they are flush with the walls around them and the Lutron shades are concealed in recessed pockets.  All of the cottage’s equipment is housed in the main equipment rack so as to have no electronic gear in any rooms (except TV’s and in wall touch panels).

The Homeworks QS system and all the Lutron Shades are controlled via the cottage’s Elan control system.  The client has one easy to use interface to control their Lighting, Shading, Audio, Video, Climate, Security and Boathouse.

This project was a true collaboration between the homeowner, builder, architect and designer. We worked together to produce drawings, mock ups and many site meetings; this collaboration led to an outcome and project that is second to none.
